Cerritos Men Shutout Mt. SAC To Win 2008 State Championship
Exciting match-up of two South Coast Conference teams
In a match-up of two South Coast Conference teams, the No. 2 Cerritos College men’s soccer team held No. 1-ranked Mt. SAC scoreless, 1-0, in the 2008 California Community College Athletic Association men’s soccer state championship match to earn the state title on Sunday morning. This is the Falcons second state championship in the last three years – they last won in 2006.
Mt. SAC, who entered as the top seed in Southern California despite losing to Cerritos three times during the regular season, only mustered three shots on goal, while goalkeeper Luis Ocampo had four saves on the afternoon.
Cerritos’ goalkeeper Diego Millan earned his ninth shutout of the year with three saves.
The Falcons scored early in the match as 2008 state tournament MVP Luis Gonzalez got the ball inches outside of the goal, before a Mt. SAC player slid in to save the ball, forcing the ball into the net for Cerritos’ lone goal.
Cerritos finishes the season 22-4-1 and Mt. SAC falls to 19-5-3.
